Remote Installation and CNC Training for a Customer in Malta on a Biesse Rover B

When a new machining center arrives, all the attention goes to the CNC machine. But between the Biesse Rover B installed on your shop floor and the first finished part, there’s one step that doesn’t come bundled with the equipment: programming the machining center.

This is something companies often underestimate. Moving from standard machining operations to 3D modeling calls for a different set of skills, and until those skills are in place, the machine runs below its potential.  

At DDX, we don’t just install the software and provide technical support. We build CNC training around the integration between EasyWOOD and the machine you actually have in your shop, working on the parts you actually produce.

That’s exactly what we did for a Maltese customer specializing in furniture and home décor pieces. We installed our woodworking software, configured the post-processor, and trained the operators entirely remotely — without ever boarding a plane.  

In this article, we’ll walk you through how it went, step by step.

The Customer’s CNC Production and the Challenge Ahead

For this installation, our specialized technician Alan Pellegrini worked with a Maltese customer specializing in furniture manufacturing. It’s a sector where value doesn’t come from repetition, but from responding to what the customer asks for.  

The difficulty lies in producing curved surfaces, complex geometries, and made-to-order parts that require machining a three-dimensional model. And this is where the operator’s skills make the difference: managing surfaces, choosing roughing strategies, handling finishing passes, and controlling critical areas.  

The challenge, then, was to put the customer in a position to design and program the 3D parts their production requires entirely on their own — and to do it remotely.

The Biesse Rover B: Versatility and Customization

The Biesse Rover B is one of the most widely used machining centers in woodworking companies. It’s a versatile machine, designed to handle both one-off parts and batch production.  

Thanks to its high degree of customization, the Biesse Rover B is a real operational advantage in production — but only if the software driving it knows exactly how it’s configured. Number of axes, loaded tools, mounted aggregates, work origins, table type: these are variables that change from one installation to the next.

How Remote Installation and CNC Training Work

If you’re wondering how we handle a remote installation and CNC training session, the answer is simple: on the customer’s own computer. Our technician, Alan Pellegrini, connected via screen sharing and worked on the real workstation, exactly as if he were there in person.  

Here’s how the project unfolded.

Installation and Configuration

Alan installed EasyWOOD remotely on the customer’s workstation. Then, he configured the post-processor based on the Biesse Rover B actually present in the shop. Finally, he verified that the generated code was correct.

Setting Up the Working Environment

Our technician loaded the real tools, defined the machining parameters, and prepared the library the customer would be working with. This is the step that makes the software genuinely usable.

CNC Training on a Complete Project

This is the heart of the project. Instead of explaining the functions in theory, we built a project from start to finish: a sports car measuring roughly 400 x 280 mm with a thickness of 70 mm.

Alan started from a 3D file of the car, which he imported into EasyWOOD. Working from the model, he generated the surfaces needed to apply the machining operations.  

Next, he moved on to roughing, removing most of the excess material in the shortest possible time. With several finishing passes at different tilt angles, the hood, sides, and rear of the model were machined and refined.  

Since some areas are more delicate than others — in our case, the rear section around the headlights and the detailing of the side doors — our technician added specific machining operations to reach the required level of definition.

Verification and Machine Trial

Before moving into production, Alan ran a simulation to verify that the toolpaths were correct and avoid any collisions. The project was then produced on the Biesse Rover B.
